Online Education Challenges

Remember when you were in grade school, and the teacher suddenly wanted you to learn something called the multiplication tables? It was a real challenge...a bigger challenge for some than for others.

Some kids just got it without breaking a sweat, and then there were those of us who still added and subtracted using our fingers and toes. It was one of those places in life where you learn a fact that lasts all of your life.

Some people just learn faster than others. That fact hasn't changed since that long-ago day.

For some people, it seems information sticks to them like a piece of used chewing gum sticks to a shoe on a hot summer day.

For the rest of us...well...we just have to work a little harder. It might take us longer, but the result is the same....we DO learn.

The trick has always been to meet the learning challenges one at a time....deal with them....and then move on to the next one.

Online education has its share of challenges, but one of them is not to have to grasp a whole book full of knowledge in a single setting.

The challenge is to learn the information. If it takes a little longer, so be it. Online education, unlike education in the brick-and-mortar world, allows that.

Meeting the challenges of an online education means that we must learn to discipline ourselves. We must set study times and stick to the schedule.

We must ensure that we have provided a quiet place for us to study and have the time we need to grasp new concepts and ideas and to master the skills necessary to get an online degree.

It is easy to get very distracted in a home atmosphere. It is one of the challenges that can be overcome.

Should You Get an Online Degree?

An online degree can be obtained in just about every discipline today...or at least the non-technical portions can be completed online rather than in the traditional campus lecture hall. Online degrees are becoming more popular everyday.

More and more people are seeking college degrees online in just about every field you can imagine.

The question is, is getting an online degree for you? Will an online degree provide the advantages for you that you are hoping for?

Some of the world lags behind in accepting the validity of a degree that has been obtained online rather than on a college campus. It's true.

So for whatever field you have chosen, you should carefully research how the employers of people with the degree you are seeking will view a diploma gained through online classes.

You are not being discouraged from seeking an online degree here. It is simply a matter of doing the research required to find out for yourself if the online degree will be acceptable proof that you have the education required to do the job you want to do.

Some employers welcome online degrees with open arms and see the job applicants who have acquired them as desirable employees who are self-starters and know how to go after what they want.

Other employers see online degrees as being of less value than the paper they are written on.

There really doesn't be a standard for accepting the validity of an online diploma in any field. Companies that hire electrical engineers will accept an online diploma, while others will not. The same is true for all fields.

The best thing to do is to just to do the research about how an online diploma will be viewed by the companies that you hope to go to work for once you obtain your online degree.

Advantages of Online Degrees
Online Degrees and Technology

First there was the industrial revolution that changed the world; but now the industrial revolution has been replaced with the computer revolution, and that has changed the world even more drastically than the industrial revolution.

The entire world seems to operate on computers today. You can hardly live on this planet today without interacting in some way with a computer. Technology rules!

Those who have the technology skills to build a website, or who have the knowledge of how to defeat hackers, viruses, or identity thieves, are in great demand in the world today.

That demand is not going to decrease....it is only going to grow larger by the day.

Degrees in technology fields can be earned online at accredited online universities or colleges that will open the door to employment in technology fields as wide and as varied as computer security to health care.

Of course, the world needs people who are educated in many fields, and employment for those with a good education -- a college degree -- is almost a sure thing no matter what the field is. But those with degrees in technology have a leg up on just about every other field because all fields relate to technology in some way.

There is an old saying, “Build a better mouse trap and the world will beat a path to your door.” In today's world, it could be changed to build a better mouse.

The world hinges on technology, and the computer is the very hub of that technology.

The most important aspect of choosing an online college or university program from which to get your degree in any of the technology fields is to be absolutely certain that the college or university is one that is accredited.

You want your degree to open doors...not slam them in your face.
