The Challenges of Getting an Online Degree Online Education
Certificates
What exactly is a certificate, and how does it differ from a degree?
Certificates and degrees are two entirely different things.
A college degree means that a person has completed a pre-set and prescribed
course of study that covers many aspects of education. All college graduates
will have successfully completed courses in English, literature, mathematics,
science, etc., no matter what their degree major is.
A certificate, on the other hand, means that a person has successfully completed
a prescribed course in a specific field. He has not taken courses in English,
literature, mathematics, science, etc. He has only studied a very specific and
narrow subject.
Once he completes this prescribed course of study, he is given a certificate
that indicates his successful completion.
Certificates are issued by brick-and-mortar colleges and universities as well as
online colleges and universities.
A certificate can serve the needs of students who have very well-defined goals.
Certificate programs are focused on the mastery of particular skills rather than
on a broad education that a degree provides.
Certificates can save students time as well as money by allowing them to take
courses that focus entirely upon the skills that they need to achieve specific
goals.
Certificates can be earned in such widely varying fields as paralegal,
financing, and health care.
A certificate issued for successful completion of a course concerning forensic
nursing, case management or geriatric care can help those in the health care
field narrow their specialties, for example.
There are even certification programs that are tied directly to professional
licensing or certification examinations.
Almost all of the certificates that can be gotten in real-world brick-and-mortar
colleges and universities can also be gotten online.
Acquiring online certificates can prove to be much less expensive and easier on
the time requirements.

The Era of the Online Education
The personal computer has changed the world forever. It leveled the playing
field.
Anybody with access to a computer has access to all of the information in the
whole world. It is right at their fingertips, and all they must do to access it
is to ask the right questions.
Back in the distant past, education was a luxury that only the very wealthy had
access to.
Only the children of the privileged could get a college education. That has
changed.
Nowadays, anybody with the desire and a computer can get a college degree.
Federal financial aid is available to those who qualify, and scholarships are
available as well.
Student loans can be made for an online education just like for an education at
a brick-and-mortar college or university.
Age, race, religion, or economic status are not factors considered for those
choosing to get a degree online.
Online education does not have to be limited to college degrees. High school
diplomas can be obtained online by people of all ages.
There are courses and instruction available for almost any topic you can
possibly think of.
The age of information has arrived and is thriving on this wonderful place we
call the Internet...the World Wide Web....the information superhighway.
If you want a high school diploma or a college diploma, or you just want to
learn how to build a really cool birdhouse, you can!
If you want to take a few college courses just so you know more than you did,
you can do that without breaking your household budget to smithereens.
You can learn how to start and run an online business. You can even learn to
cook, if that is your heart's desire. There is no limit to the
possibilities! |

Degrees and Technology
First there was the industrial revolution that changed the world; but now the
industrial revolution has been replaced with the computer revolution, and that
has changed the world even more drastically than the industrial revolution.
The entire world seems to operate on computers today. You can hardly live on
this planet today without interacting in some way with a computer. Technology
rules!
Those who have the technology skills to build a website, or who have the
knowledge of how to defeat hackers, viruses, or identity thieves, are in great
demand in the world today.
That demand is not going to decrease....it is only going to grow larger by the
day.
Degrees in technology fields can be earned online at accredited online
universities or colleges that will open the door to employment in technology
fields as wide and as varied as computer security to health care.
Of course, the world needs people who are educated in many fields, and
employment for those with a good education -- a college degree -- is almost a
sure thing no matter what the field is. But those with degrees in technology
have a leg up on just about every other field because all fields relate to
technology in some way.
There is an old saying, “Build a better mouse trap and the world will beat a
path to your door.” In today's world, it could be changed to build a better
mouse.
The world hinges on technology, and the computer is the very hub of that
technology.
The most important aspect of choosing an online college or university program
from which to get your degree in any of the technology fields is to be
absolutely certain that the college or university is one that is accredited.
You want your degree to open doors...not slam them in your face.
