Certificates
What exactly is a certificate, and how does it differ from a degree?
Certificates and degrees are two entirely different things.
A college degree means that a person has completed a pre-set and prescribed
course of study that covers many aspects of education. All college graduates
will have successfully completed courses in English, literature, mathematics,
science, etc., no matter what their degree major is.
A certificate, on the other hand, means that a person has successfully completed
a prescribed course in a specific field. He has not taken courses in English,
literature, mathematics, science, etc. He has only studied a very specific and
narrow subject.
Once he completes this prescribed course of study, he is given a certificate
that indicates his successful completion.
Certificates are issued by brick-and-mortar colleges and universities as well as
online colleges and universities.
A certificate can serve the needs of students who have very well-defined goals.
Certificate programs are focused on the mastery of particular skills rather than
on a broad education that a degree provides.
Certificates can save students time as well as money by allowing them to take
courses that focus entirely upon the skills that they need to achieve specific
goals.
Certificates can be earned in such widely varying fields as paralegal,
financing, and health care.
A certificate issued for successful completion of a course concerning forensic
nursing, case management or geriatric care can help those in the health care
field narrow their specialties, for example.
There are even certification programs that are tied directly to professional
licensing or certification examinations.
Almost all of the certificates that can be gotten in real-world brick-and-mortar
colleges and universities can also be gotten online.
Acquiring online certificates can prove to be much less expensive and easier on
the time requirements.

The Era of the Online Education
The personal computer has changed the world forever. It leveled the playing
field.
Anybody with access to a computer has access to all of the information in the
whole world. It is right at their fingertips, and all they must do to access it
is to ask the right questions.
Back in the distant past, education was a luxury that only the very wealthy had
access to.
Only the children of the privileged could get a college education. That has
changed.
Nowadays, anybody with the desire and a computer can get a college degree.
Federal financial aid is available to those who qualify, and scholarships are
available as well.
Student loans can be made for an online education just like for an education at
a brick-and-mortar college or university.
Age, race, religion, or economic status are not factors considered for those
choosing to get a degree online.
Online education does not have to be limited to college degrees. High school
diplomas can be obtained online by people of all ages.
There are courses and instruction available for almost any topic you can
possibly think of.
The age of information has arrived and is thriving on this wonderful place we
call the Internet...the World Wide Web....the information superhighway.
If you want a high school diploma or a college diploma, or you just want to
learn how to build a really cool birdhouse, you can!
If you want to take a few college courses just so you know more than you did,
you can do that without breaking your household budget to smithereens.
You can learn how to start and run an online business. You can even learn to
cook, if that is your heart's desire. There is no limit to the
possibilities! |

Degree Scams
The world is full of scam artists and just plain old garden variety crooks. They
show up where ever there is money to be made.
Since online education is one of the fastest-growing and most lucrative fields
around today, these scam artists and crooks are out in full force.
I hate to have to be the one to point this out, but the fact is that the people
who most often get scammed are those who are looking for the easy way out. They
set themselves up to get taken.
Anybody who thinks that they can simply buy a college degree like going to the
corner store and buying a loaf of bread are just asking to be taken. While
getting a college degree does take money, it requires so much more than money.
It requires study, and it requires working through many difficult problems and
assignments satisfactorily. A college degree can't be just BOUGHT...it must also
be earned, either online or offline.
It really isn't hard to locate these online college degree scams. The best of
them will simply print you a diploma and mail it to you for a price.
The worst of them will put up a front that requires you to write a paper or two,
and then you get your diploma.
They fool you into believing that you in some way earned the fake degree that is
worth less than the price of the paper that it is printed on.
When anything looks too good to be true, it IS too good to be true. That is a
good principle to live by, and you should always check to be certain that the
online college or university that you choose is one that is accredited.
You can bet that it will take more than writing a paper or two to get a
diploma.
