Pros and Cons of Online Degrees

Online degrees are available in almost every field that can be imagined.

Degrees can be achieved online for nursing, engineering, finance, criminal justice, education, religion, etc. Those who seek getting a degree online usually have some very valid reasons for doing so.

The two most often cited reasons why people have chosen to get their degree online rather than on a traditional college campus are time and money.

Both time and money are valid reasons for seeking a college degree online. There does seem to be a major shortage of both for most people today.

One of the big advantages of getting a degree online is that there is so much less time required.

On the traditional college campus, a student must attend classes for a required number of hours each week for a period of several weeks or months in order to get credit for that course.

The online college classes are usually structured so that there is a certain amount of learning to be done, and once that learning is accomplished, the student can move on.

It is true that online classes are usually for a required number of weeks. Still, the time spent by most online students is far less than that spent by students on college campuses.

Money is another huge advantage of getting a college degree online. Tuition still must be paid and books must still be purchased, but there is no room and board required.

Room and board is one of the most major costs on college degrees obtained through brick-and-mortar colleges.

The only con associated with getting a degree online is the acceptability of the degree by future employers. It is no secret that online degrees are not considered valid by some companies who are still dwelling in the twentieth century.

A student should do his research to ascertain that an online degree is acceptable by the company he hopes to work for.

Pros and Cons of Online Degrees
Advantages of Online Degrees

Many people dream of getting a college education that never had the opportunity to do so...until now. They work at mundane jobs and see younger, less experienced people pass them by on their way to the top.

Of course, these younger and less experience people all have a college degree hanging on their walls that tell the world that they have been educated and therefore know what they are doing.

A college degree opens doors that will remain closed unless you have one. No matter what the field of endeavor, there is a college degree that can help a person advance in that field.

It is a well-known and universally accepted fact that those with college degrees earn a lot more money each and every year than those who do not have college degrees -- about twice as much.

The difference in the quality of the house you live in and the car you drive depends almost entirely upon whether or not you have a college degree. The good news is that it is never too late to get a college degree.

Back in the distant past, only those who were young and had a lot of financial support had access to a college education. But times have changed.

The computer changed it! Today, a college degree can be obtained by almost anybody who has access to a computer -- either a personal computer or a public computer.

Online degrees can be gotten in just about any field, and the cost is only a fraction of the cost of getting an equivalent degree on a traditional college campus.

Not only is the cost a lot less, but classes can be attended and assignments completed in a time frame that is suitable to each student. A college education has become universally available thanks to the computer.

Online Degrees and Technology

First there was the industrial revolution that changed the world; but now the industrial revolution has been replaced with the computer revolution, and that has changed the world even more drastically than the industrial revolution.

The entire world seems to operate on computers today. You can hardly live on this planet today without interacting in some way with a computer. Technology rules!

Those who have the technology skills to build a website, or who have the knowledge of how to defeat hackers, viruses, or identity thieves, are in great demand in the world today.

That demand is not going to decrease....it is only going to grow larger by the day.

Degrees in technology fields can be earned online at accredited online universities or colleges that will open the door to employment in technology fields as wide and as varied as computer security to health care.

Of course, the world needs people who are educated in many fields, and employment for those with a good education -- a college degree -- is almost a sure thing no matter what the field is. But those with degrees in technology have a leg up on just about every other field because all fields relate to technology in some way.

There is an old saying, “Build a better mouse trap and the world will beat a path to your door.” In today's world, it could be changed to build a better mouse.

The world hinges on technology, and the computer is the very hub of that technology.

The most important aspect of choosing an online college or university program from which to get your degree in any of the technology fields is to be absolutely certain that the college or university is one that is accredited.

You want your degree to open doors...not slam them in your face.
